“I love ‘Merry Christmas Baby,'” Caillat told Billboard. “I loved the Bruce Springsteen version. It has that rock blues country kind of feel and so we leaned that direction. It’s just a fun song that you can rock out to and sing really loud to and have a good time performing it.”
The 1940s song, covered by Springsteen & the E Street Band for the first “A Very Special Christmas” compilation album in 1987, also has versions recorded by Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley and Hanson. Now, Caillat’s version joins the mix, just in time for the 2012 holiday season.
While in the studio to record “Merry Christmas Baby,” the 27-year-old performer talked about what makes the holidays special in her home, and how she’ll be spending Christmas with her family this year.
“For Christmas every year we’d go to my grandparents’ house in Lake Tahoe, Nev. so we’d usually have a white Christmas and we’d play in the snow and sit by the fire and bake pies and eat amazing family dinners,” Caillat recalled. “[There would be] presents under the tree and we’d help my grandma decorate.”
