Game 2 of the NBA Finals was full of twists and turns and unexpected moments. And the surprises started before the opening jump-ball when Carlos Santana and Cindy Blackman teamed for a rendition of the National Anthem.
The husband-and-wife duo performed the pre-game standard at the Golden State Warriors’ Oracle Arena with a different spin. They beat out a Jimi Hendrix-esque version of the “Star-Spangled Banner” on drums and electric guitar, and there wasn’t a lyric to be heard. The pair also posed with the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy.
It was an unusual intro to a most unusual game. The contest went into extra time with the traveling Cleveland Cavaliers prevailing 95-93. Watch the Santana-Blackman performance of the “Star-Spangled Banner” below.
