American Idol Season 5 alum Ayla Brown delivered a powerful version of the national anthem Thursday night (July 21) at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dressed in a red pantsuit, the daughter of former Republican U.S. Senator Scott Brown took the stage earlier than her scheduled 7:45 p.m. EST start, and brought down the house.
Shortly after, Brown tweeted a video of the performance.
“It was so much fun,” she said. “This was the performance of a lifetime.”

In a humorous exchange on Twitter, Brown was confronted with an Internet critic who took a swipe at her performance.

Instead of the conversation turning heated, the poster changed his tune, and even said he is going to purchase her CD, Let Love In. After he complimented her “beautiful voice.” Brown responded simply, writing, “Seriously, I love you.”

Prior to her performance, Brown posed for pictures with Heavenly Joy Jerkins, the six-year old America’s Got Talent and Little Big Shots star who charmed the crowd with “Let There Be Peace on Earth.” Heavenly Joy — the daughter of producer Rodney Jerkins — concluded with thunderous applause after performing “America the Beautiful” with a nod to “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” at the end.
Brown is getting set to depart for a month long European tour with Armed Forces Entertainment. Before that, fans can catch her July 27 at the Hampton Beach Seashell Stage in New Hampshire and Aug. 5 at the Spire Center for Performing Arts in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
