The Allman Brothers Band will lose two of its prominent members when 2014 draws to a close. At the end of the year, guitarists Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks will depart the band.
The duo’s departure was announced in a release today (Jan. 8), noting that Haynes and Trucks would honor the band’s commitments through 2014 — the Allman Brothers Band’s 45th anniversary — before focusing full-time on other projects.

“For 25 years and 15 years respectively, we’ve had the honor and pleasure of playing, living, learning, and traveling with the Allman Brothers Band, one of the truly legendary rock and roll bands,” Haynes and Trucks said in the release. “We will be forever grateful for the opportunity and the experience, and for the love, enthusiasm and support of the incredible fans. We are both preparing to dig even deeper into our various creative and musical endeavors and, as a result, 2014 will be our final year as part of the band.”
Haynes, who joined the group in 1989, added an extra statement, saying that though he had no expectations of remaining in the group as long as he had (he joined during the band’s 1989 reunion tour), but called his time in the Allman Brothers Band “an amazing experience,” adding that he looks forward to “maintaining a vigorous schedule which will include many more years of touring and recording with Gov’t Mule in addition to my solo projects and to enjoying more family time as well.”
Trucks, a 15-year member who joined at age 19, added that he’s “proud to have made a small contribution to the masterful music they have created over the past forty years, and will continue to create.” He confirmed plans to continue with solo projects and with the Tedeschi Trucks Band, a group with his wife, Susan Tedeschi.
The band currently has plans for a Jan. 10 show at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre honoring Allman guitarist Gregg Allman before moving to a 10-night residency at New York’s Beacon Theater between March 7-22.
