Warner Music Group has launched Cordless Recordings, an e-label created by former Elektra CEO Jac Holzman. The label will be based in New York and Jason Fiber, founder of Superfecta Recordings, has been named its president.
The label’s primary marketing channel will be the Internet and it will aggressively utilize the latest digital products, formats and online and mobile technologies to implement marketing programs for its artists. These plans include online music services, wireless carriers and legal peer-to-peer networks.
Additionally, artists on Cordless will release “clusters” of music–three or more songs at a time–in an attempt to increase the interaction between artists and their fan base via a continuous flow of new music.
Complimenting the Internet strategy are plans to promote artists through offline marketing, traditional and lifestyle marketing, touring and radio promotion (college, specialty commercial, satellite and online radio).
Artists releasing the first clusters include Jihad Jerry & The Evildoers, Breakup Breakdown, Dangerous Muse and Nozzle. The Web site is live and can be seen at www.cordless.com.
