K-pop boy band Wanna One released their second EP of 2018 on Monday (June 4), 1÷x=1 (Undivided). Fronted by the single “Light,” it is the fourth album from the group since their formation through the second season of the South Korean television show Produce 101 in 2017.
“Light” is a smooth electro-pop track, much as several of Wanna One’s previous single have been. With a catchy chorus that bemoans, “Do you feel the same?” and a glitchy EDM breakdown, the single is a romantic dance song that will be the lead track of Wanna One’s upcoming world tour, which will bring them Stateside later this month. They will also appear at both KCON 2018 NY and LA.
The music video for “Light” features the 11 members divided among a variety of picturesque sets as they sing, before coming together at the end of the video as an undivided unit. Clips of the powerful choreography are interspersed throughout the video.
The EP features four other songs along with the single, which broke Wanna One down to small units. Each track was produced by a prominent South Korean artist.
“Forever and a Day,” produced by Nell’s Kim Jong Wan, is an evocative, building pop-rock ballad featuring Wanna One’s Yoon Jisung, Ha Sungwoon and Hwang Minhyun. The groovy alt R&B tune “11,” produced by Gaeko and Choiza of Dynamic Duo, features Lai Kuanlin, Park Jihoon, and Bae Jinyoung and leads into the breezy “Sandglass” produced by Heize and featuring Ong Seongwu and Lee Daehwi alongside the singer-songwriter. “Kangaroo,” produced by Block B’s Zico, is a playful hip-pop track that closes the album out with Kang Daniel, Kim Jaehwan and Park Woojin.
The 11 members of Wanna One were picked for the group through the competition show Produce 101 as a temporary act. They are reportedly planning to break up at the end of this year.
