The 11 members of K-pop boy band Wanna One will be heading to KCON 2018 NY, announced KCON USA today. It will serve as the New York area stop of the act’s world tour, which will take the group to several other cities in the States.
Formed through the second season of the popular Korean television show Produce 101, Wanna One surged to the top of the K-pop race upon their formation last year. Since their debut with the single “Energetic” in August, they’ve amassed a huge following and recently took the No. 4 spot on the Social 50 chart. Last year, they were one of K-pop’s best-selling acts, and their latest album 0+1=1 (I Promise You) , fronted by the single “Boomerang,” peaked at No. 10 on the World Albums chart upon its release last month.
Wanna One previously attended KCON 2017 LA last summer.
While they have yet to confirm the dates for their worldwide tour, Wanna One announced the locations of their One: The World concert series on April 2, and revealed that the boy band will head to San Jose, Dallas, Chicago and Atlanta. They will also make stops in Asia and Australia. Along with the KCON 2018 NY spot, the group has currently announced five stateside appearances this summer. No Los Angeles-area date is announced at this time.
The tour marks the last time Wanna One will likely venture stateside as a group as the act was formed through Produce 101 only as a temporary boy band. Wanna One is planned to be disbanded at the end of this year, and it is expected that the 11 members, some of whom are parts of other K-pop acts, will return to their individual career paths.
Hosted by CJ E &M and its channel Mnet, which Produce 101 aired on, KCON 2018 NY will take place in Newark, New Jersey at the Prudential Center on June 23-24. The east coast Korean pop culture festival and concert event will be followed by KCON 2018 LA on August 10-12.
