The Wallflowers are preparing to release their fourth album, “Red Letter Days,” Nov. 5 on Interscope, and will celebrate by taking to the road for a theater/ballroom tour starting Nov. 20 in Englewood, Colo. The first leg of the tour will run through a Dec. 7 date in Washington, D.C., although more dates for a second leg are expected to be announced.
“I don’t mean to be blunt, but I think this is a great f***ing record,” frontman Jakob Dylan recently told Billboard of the new album, whose upbeat first single “When You’re on Top,” finds the group experimenting with electronic textures. While “Too Late To Quit” and “Everybody Out of the Water” hearken back to the rock-leaning sounds of past efforts, “See You When I Get There” and “Never Got Sick” reveal a more experimental bent.
The first pressing of “Red Letter Days” will feature two bonus tracks: “Peace, Love & Understanding” and “Empire of My Mind,” which is being utilized as the theme song for the CBS drama “The Guardian.” Last night (Oct. 3), the group performed “Everybody Out of the Water” on CBS’ “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.”
The Wallflowers will be supported on the first leg of the tour by Ours, a New Jersey-based quintet set to release its second album, “Precious,” Nov. 5 via DreamWorks. Ours is the primary musical project of frontman Jimmy Gnecco, whose Jeff Buckley-inspired first album under the Ours moniker, “Distorted Lullabies” (Dreamworks), debuted last year at No. 22 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart.
The Wallflowers’ previous album, “(Breach),” debuted at No. 13 on The Billboard 200 in October 2000. “Bringing Down the Horse” peaked at No. 4 on the chart in May 1997.
