Las Vegas’ response to the tragedy on October 1 shows that Sin City has always been a vibrant community that sticks together, rallies, and celebrates everything that life has to offer. The city’s profound energy was on display in September, when Billboard hosted the second installment of the Next Up: New Artists, New Music concert series presented in partnership with W Hotels.
Brooklyn dance duo Sofi Tukker were announced as the next Next Up artists to perform in Las Vegas and be featured in the continuing series. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, Sophie Hawley-Weld was unable to attend, so bandmate Tucker Halpern took to the intimate stage at the W Las Vegas, as well as at Life is Beautiful music festival, and served up some of the globally minded grooves that have made the duo festival favorites.
Life Is Beautiful is just one reason to visit Vegas. Read on for an interactive map highlighting local hot spots picked by Billboard and W Hotels. Whether you’re looking to shop for vintage vinyl, sip creative cocktails, or chow down on tapas and sushi, these picks have you covered.
“We’re not one of those bands that has a lot of smoke and backlighting,” says Halpern in a behind-the-scenes video. “Learning how to reach out into a crowd of 10,000 or 20,000 is such a different experience and such a different goal. We try to really break down the fourth wall. It’s one of my biggest joys in life. I think I’ll do it forever.”
“Being a Next Up artist is definitely a big honor,” Halpern says in a second video featuring footage of the Las Vegas Next Up: New Artists, New Music event. “Billboard is such a staple of music, and W Hotels is a cool place. For you guys to believe in us feels really good. For anyone to believe in us, whether it’s our parents or friends or a stranger, we appreciate you.”
The third and final Next Up: New Artists, New Music show of 2017 will take place in Santiago, Chile at the W Hotel. Keep an eye out for video of the show, plus more awesome travel recommendations.
