PARIS (The Hollywood Reporter) — Vivendi Universal and Viacom Inc. on Oct. 28 confirmed the sale of UCI Cinemas in Europe to London-based private equity firm Terra Firma Capital Partners Limited for 270 million euros ($344.4 million).
The UCI group’s 50% stake in UCI Japan had been sold separately to the Sumitomo Corp. for an additional 45.6 million euros ($58.1 million), Vivendi said in a statement.
Terra Firma, which also acquired the Odeon circuit in August, announced the UCI deal in September without disclosing its value. UCI, which is owned 50% by Vivendi Universal and Viacom, is one of the largest operators of multiplex theaters outside the United States, with approximately 868 screens in104 theaters worldwide.
The group’s European operations sold to Terra Firma include theaters in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy and Portugal.
