Digital music services specialist Vital:Pias Digital has struck a multi-territory content agreement to sell its 100-plus partner labels’ music videos on Apple Computer’s iTunes Music Store.
Through the deal, unveiled today (Jan. 22) at the Midem trade fair in Cannes, VPD members’ videos will be available on iTunes Music Stores in the United Kingdom and Europe, the United States and Australia. Agreements for Canada and Japan are expected to follow.
VPD head Adrian Pope says the delivery of music promos to iTunes’ Video iPod player represented an important component to its audio-visual offering.
“Audio-Visual products as downloads, although relatively new, promise to ignite the industry once more – we see huge potential for our labels and artists repertoire as they invariably have some of the most innovative and creative video’s around,” comments Pope.
Apple Computer boasts sales of more than six million units of its Video iPod since unveiling the portable device last October.
Separately, VPD has forged content pacts with German aggregator Arvato Mobile and with British independent music group Ministry of Sound, for its WAP portals in the United Kingdom and Europe.
Established in early 2004, VPD is a division of London-based indie Vital Distribution and Brussels-based parent music group Play It Again Sam. It offers its members dedicated digital production services, specialized sales and marketing assistance, reporting and data management.
