Steve Strange, the Welsh lead singer of ’80s outfit Visage, has died of a heart attack at 55, according to the BBC. He passed away in his sleep at a hospital in Egypt.
“His family, band members and friends are all distraught at this sudden news of his untimely death,” a rep told the BBC.
While Visage remain best known for the 1980 synthpop hit “Fade to Grey,” Strange was equally renowned for his fashion sense. Along with Boy George, he had a major impact on the look of the British new romantic movement in the early ’80s. Additionally, he appeared in David Bowie‘s “Ashes to Ashes” music video.
I’m very sad to announce that our friend Steve Strange has died in Egypt today. He was the leading edge of New Romantic. God Bless him.
