Virgin Digital today (Dec. 8) revealed an agreement that will place prepaid cards for its download store in 5,500 CVS pharmacies across the United States.
The cards will be available in increments of $14.85 — the cost of 15 song downloads through the Virgin Digital Megastore — and can be replenished at participating retailers.
Under the terms of the agreement, CellCards — a unit of Coinstar — will have a license to promote, market, distribute and sell music download cards to consumers through its national retail distribution network.
“Working with CellCards to offer prepaid Virgin Digital cards across the country opens up an entirely new revenue stream for the service,” Virgin Digital president Zack Zalon says in a statement. “The prepaid Virgin Digital cards are a perfect solution for consumers who want to enjoy our digital music service, but have reservations about using their credit card on the Internet, or who may not have access to credit cards due to their age or credit history.”
