While they remain larely under the radar in the States, Norwegian hip-hop duo Madcon already boasts a staggering list of accomplishments abroad. Since finding overseas success with their breakout single “Barcelona” in 2002, the comedic duo of Tshawe Baqwa and Yosef Wolde-Mariam has scored a Norwegian Grammy, a successful reality TV series, a World Music award for best-selling Norwegian group, and several chart-topping European singles, including the 7X-platinum monster “Beggin’,” which remains one of the most successful songs in the history of the Norwegian charts.
Three albums deep into the game, Madcon are now intent on bringing their mix of rap, funk, soul, reggae and African vibes to American ears. The pair are working on an album that will feature the best tunes from the group’s catalog paired with new cuts tailored made for U.S. listeners. Madcon recently stopped by Billboard.com’s studios to drop a high-energy performance of “Beggin'” and to chat about their plans for Stateside success.
