Inspiration strikes in the wildest places. Just ask Vice.
“The power of the internet is amazing,” the DJ/producer says. “I randomly came across this sample on musical.ly and knew instantly I had to do something big with it. Thought it would be the perfect opportunity to work with Jasmine Thompson who had been killing it on Youtube and in true genre-bender fashion, throw in Skizzy Mars to give ‘Steady 1234’ some edge.”
Martin Garrix, Vice and 3LAU to Host Shows on SiriusXM’s BPM Channel: Exclusive
There’s a tropical undertone to the whole thing with trap textures cleverly wrapped around Skizzy’s words and a chorus that bursts with flavor. Thompson breathes unrequited whispers over the playful beat while Mars acts the part of the careless and far-away would-be lover. The lyric video lays it all out before bright images of Las Vegas and South Beach.
“I was so excited when Vice sent me the record,” Thompson says. “ The chorus is so much fun to sing along to, so I thought it was better to leave the original and put a bit of me into the song by adding in new verses. I’ve also always wanted to collaborate with Skizzy Mars. He’s one of the best young rappers right now and I can’t wait to perform this song with him.”

“I’ve been a big fan of Vice for a while – Innovative sounds,” Mars continues. “When I heard the track, I thought it was creative and Jasmine’s vocals really made it a banger. I think it’s diverse. Could be a club banger, could be one to cruise down the highway in the car with. Was a pleasure to add my little piece. Proud of the verse and how the record came out.”
