Ustream has struck a web-exclusive content deal with Viacom. The announcement, released today, stated that the home of MTV, VH1, CMT and other media outlets has agreed to stream live, web-exclusive content solely through the live streaming company.
The new joint venture will launch with a live Ustream of VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul’s Red Carpet on Dec. 18. “We are steadfast in our mission to provide our audience a front row seat and exclusive access to pop culture’s biggest events,” Dermot McCormack EVP of Digital for Viacom Media Networks said in a statement. “The VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul Red Carpet is the perfect occasion to officially launch our syndication partnership with Ustream, which we are confident will only expand the reach of our digital specific live streams to an even larger audience base.”
While the service will carry programming such as the O Music Awards, Live in NYC, and Red Carpet premieres, the new partnership won’t just be limited to music. All Viacom networks including MTV, VH1, CMT, Comedy Central and Spike will be included in the live streaming.
“We are thrilled to partner with Viacom to distribute high quality live video content spanning music, entertainment, comedy, gaming and news” said Jason Kirk, VP of Content and Distribution for Ustream in a statement.
In addition to the “VH1 Divas Celebrates Soul” Red Carpet on December 18, which will be exclusively live streamed on VH1.com and on Ustream.com, beginning Monday, December 19, fans can view a curated Red Carpet highlights video on VH1.com and watch the VH1 Divas Celebrate Soul debuting on VH1 at 9pm ET.
