VH1’s family of cable channels will debut new music-related programming throughout February to celebrate Black History Month.
On VH1:
*Three new biographies in the “Rags to Riches” documentary series will focus
on the childhoods and inspirations of Akon, Nick Cannon and Macy Gray.
“Akon” will air February 4th at 10 p.m.; “Nick Cannon” February 4th at 10:30
p.m. And “Macy Gray” February 27th at 11 p.m.
*”VH1 Storytellers: Mary J. Blige” will premiere on February 25th at 8 p.m.
Taped at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, Blige will perform from
“Growing Pains” and discuss the evolution of each song.
*Throughout February, VH1 will air a promo campaign where African-Americans
discuss what the word “black” means to them. Among those participating is
Common.
On VH1 Soul:
*”Soul Story: Mary J. Blige” will intersperse Blige’s videos with personal
anecdotes to tell the story of her career. It will air February 11th at 9
p.m.
*”Lenny Kravitz: Love Revolution” has the artist hosting a video block on
Valentine’s Day, as well as promoting his new album, “It’s Time For A Love
Revolution.” It will air at 9 p.m.
*”Say It Loud!” is a five-part documentary series on the evolution of black
music, including gospel, jazz and rock and roll. It will air each night
between February 18 -22 at 9 p.m.
*”Soul Stage: Erykah Badu” will feature a live performance by the artist,
and will air February 26th at 9 p.m.
*Together with Ebony and Jet Magazines, “Soul Influencers” like Stevie
Wonder, George Clinton and Tina Turner will be shown in promos throughout
February.
On VH1 Classic:
*”Classic 60 Minutes” will feature library interviews with Tina Turner on
February 3rd at 8 p.m. And Ray Charles on February 10 at p.m.
*”Classic in Concert: James Brown: Live From the House of Blues” will air on
February 15th at 9 p.m.
*”Marvin Gaye: The Real Thing in Performance” will air on February 25th at 8
p.m.
*Living Colour’s Corey Clover will appear in promotions throughout the
month.
