In anticipation of the expansion of its music operation, Venevision
International has hired Jorge Pino to the newly created post of music VP. He will be based in Miami.
Pino, the former president/CEO of EMI Latin USA, was hired by Venevision Internacional president/CEO Luis Villanueva, who says Venevision’s label—Vene Music—is ready to concentrate full time in the signing and development of artists.
Vene Music launched nearly three years ago as the music division of Venevision Internacional, the giant Spanish language media conglomerate whose worldwide operations include film and TV production and distribution, theater and advertising operations.
The music division initially put out compilations, and last year released “Por Tí,” the two-time Latin Grammy winning album by Juan Luis Guerra. Venemusic’s other acts are Delfín, Hector Montaner and Chichi Peralta. Last year, Venemusic released some 100 albums.
With Pino’s entry, the company is expected to expand operations at all levels and is planning to launch a publishing company. Initially, says Pino, “we will sign very selectively. We want acts from all genres, but preserving a sense of quality.” Venemusic’s key staff members will stay on board, reporting to Pino.
