Singer-songwriter Julieta Venegas will be MTV Latin America’s next artist to record an “Unplugged” TV special and CD/DVD. Venegas’ concert, to be taped in March in Mexico City, will air in June of this year on MTV Latin America, MTV Tr3s and MTV Spain.
Sony BMG will release Venegas’ “Unplugged” CD and DVD in June as well. Venegas’ participation marks MTV Latin America’s 20th production of the series, with prior artists such as Ricky Martin and Shakira garnering Latin Grammys for their “Unplugged” recordings.
Venegas’ latest studio album, “Limon y Sal,” has gone platinum internationally. Her “MTV Unplugged” will be available to more than 100 MTV channels worldwide.
José Tillán, senior VP of creative, content and music for MTV/VH1 Latin America, will executive produce the show. Michael Dagnery, VP of ad-sponsored development and special projects for MTV/VH1 Latin America and MTV Tr3_s, will serve as producer. Vicente Solis, VP of content for MTV and VH1 Latin America, North Cone will co-produce.
