In the first official music video for their fantastic new album “Modern Vampires of the City,” the members of Vampire Weekend find themselves at a dinner party gone awry. Through all the chaos (which includes middle fingers, a saxophone-bong, and a mysterious balaclava-faced guest) the guys manage to keep things together.
And the guest list for the Primo Khan-directed vid is impressive. Also on hand are Santigold, Dirty Projectors frontman Dave Longstreth, Walkmen frontman Hamilton Leithauser, a so-over-this-party Sky Ferreira, and Chromeo’s David Macklovitch and Patrick Gemayel, who get into a little tussle with drummer Chris Tomson.
This isn’t the first time a Vampire Weekend video included a smattering of celebrities. For the video for their “Contra” single “Giving Up the Gun,” Lil Jon, Joe Jonas, RZA, and Jake Gyllenhaal made cameos.
This week, “Diane Young” rose from 42 to 18 on Rock Songs, and was the chart’s Digital Sales Gainer. “Modern Vampires of the City” fell to No. 7 on the Billboard 200, following an impressive opening week, in which it debuted at No. 1 and sold 134,000 copies, according to Nielsen Soundscan.
