Auckland, New Zealand-based debt collector Rosita Vai, 24, was yesterday (Oct. 17) voted as the second “NZ Idol.”
As part her win, Vai will come under the management of NZ Idol judge Paul Ellis. Her debut single “All I Ask” is released today by Sony BMG New Zealand, followed by a yet-untitled album on Oct. 28.
Online gambling site Centrebet paid out odds of NZ$1.55 for 26-year old competition favorite Nik Carlson. Vai’s odds were paying out at NZ$2.30.
More than 602,000 viewers, or approximately 16% of the New Zealand population watched the “final performance” episode Sunday night (Oct. 16) on free-to-air TV2, according to AGB Nielsen Media Research. The equivalent show last year drew 20% of the population.
Seven Top 10 contestants from the show will perform around the country as part of the “Idolised” tour, which starts Dec. 1.
The series’ first winner Ben Lumis parted from Sony BMG after a debut album, and subsequently disappeared from the music industry.
