Jim Urie has been promoted to CEO of Universal Music Group Distribution (UMGD). Most previously Urie served as president of UMGD and will now carry the title of both president & CEO. He reports to Doug Morris, chairman and CEO of UMG, and Zach Horowitz, president and COO of UMG.
Urie first joined the company in August 1996 as executive VP and GM and assumed the role of president in August 1999. He began his career in 1972 as a college rep for CBS Records and steadily moved up the ranks at the label. He joined PolyGram in 1987 as senior VP of sales and distribution and took the reins as senior VP of marketing in 1989. In 1993, he moved to Arista Records as senior VP of sales.
Urie is based in Universal City, Calif.
