The Dave Matthews Band has re-signed with RCA Records and will begin recording its next studio album this spring.
Describing the new contract as more of a “distribution deal” than a traditional label agreement, sources close to the situation say the new RCA signing is for North America only, and the band will be free to make new deals in other territories.
As part of the partnership, DMB is also moving ahead with plans to distribute live recordings online, in the vein of such acts as Pearl Jam, the Dead and Phish.
DMB, which first signed with RCA in 1993, has sold 30 million units, according to the label.
