James Lavelle’s UNKLE project is progressing on its third studio album, which is presently being mixed in London and expected for a summer release.
The as-yet-untitled album will feature guest appearances from Queens Of The Stone Age’s Josh Homme and his fiancee, Distillers frontwoman Brody Dalle, plus longtime QOTSA collaborator Chris Goss.
The Cult lead singer Ian Astbury has recorded vocals for three songs. “I have a great admiration for James Lavelle as an artist,” he tells Billboard.com. Astbury also raves about the contribution from Los Angeles rock act Autolux: “Their track is amazing,” he says.
The new effort is the follow-up to 2003’s “Never, Never, Land,” which reached No. 6 on Billboard’s Top Electronic Albums chart. It featured guest turns from Brian Eno, Pulp’s Jarvis Cocker, Massive Attack’s 3D and former Stone Roses principals Ian Brown and Mani.
