Sources at Univision Radio confirmed that the company “streamlined” some of its radio operations Wednesday. As part of that process, programmers in key markets were let go in what may be the biggest, simultaneous lay-offs at a Spanish language radio network in recent memory.
Among those who reportedly were let go are Arnulfo Ramirez, PD of KAMA (104.9 FM) in Houston; Fernando Perez, PD of KLVE in Los Angeles; and Pete Manriquez, Univision Radio’s veteran VP of Programming, the sources said. Reps for Univision declined to confirm any of the departures to Billboard.biz.
Sources outside the company said Manriquez is still under contract with the company but is not actively in the building anymore. They also noted that more changes are expected in the next seven to 10 days.
Radio-info.com noted there were closures within Univision’s research units. Reps for Univision Radio declined to comment but a source within the network said that contrary to those reports, the company’s research operation is “very robust.”
The changes come in the wake of the appointment two weeks ago of Jose Valle as president of Univision Radio.
