Universal Music Germany and indie label V2 Records have teamed-up to form a joint-sales and distribution unit, with effect from July 1.
Both parties have agreed to forge an independent sales and distribution unit for indie labels, dubbed the Universal Independent Network.
The new Berlin-based network is aimed at serving specialist dealers and mail order firms and all repertoire-associated markets.
“I am really pleased that we have been able to win over V2, as one of the most important labels for independent repertoire, to join us with its artists to share in this expansion of our already strong sales and distribution division,” comments Frank Briegmann, president and CEO, Universal Music Germany, in a statement.
Dietrich Eggert, GM, V2 Records Germany, added: “Universal’s new sales strategy convinced us that it was worth switching our sales and distribution to their new unit, though it was not an easy decision after ten successful years of co-operation with Rough Trade Distribution.”
