Universal Music Publishing Group Australia (UMPG) has restructured its licensing department.
Departmental head Denise Sharp has been promoted to director of licensing, as the department expands from three to five.
Licensing makes up about 10 to 15% of the company’s revenue, Sydney-based managing director Bob Aird tells Billboard.biz. “But we’re expanding further into the digital realm and video games and, generally, make sure nothing falls through the cracks.”
Aird’s strategy is to provide clients with a one-stop service by working closer with Universal’s record label and production music sectors, and ensuring that each of the five have specialized duties.
UMPG’s local signings include Jet, Powderfinger, Wolfmother, Paul Kelly, the Grates, Radio Birdman, Lee Kernaghan, Bernard Fanning, the Living End, Shihad, Alex Lloyd, Tommy Emmanuel, the Butterfly Effect, the Cruel Sea and Rogue Traders.
The market share of individual publishers is currently not available in Australia.
