Universal Music Group has become the first music label to license its artist repertoire to Motorola’s new iRadio service.
The iRadio service is accessed via Motorola phone and then streamed via Bluetooth technology to Bluetooth-enabled car stereos or home entertainment systems. Motorola is still finalizing the details of the service, which the company says will to launch at the CES conference this January.
The iRadio service is designed to capture existing Internet radio streams and make them portable. It also will allow users to develop customized Internet radio stations in genres or artists of their choosing as part of the iRadio service. UMG is the first label to license its catalog for that purpose.
