Universal Music Group has promoted Nicola Levy to global head of business affairs, digital, with immediate effect.
Levy, who is relocating to Santa Monica from London, will oversee a global team of business affairs executives who will be tasked with helping shape digital strategy and negotiate the music major’s agreements with existing and prospective digital partners.
In her new role, she will report to Jeff Harleston, UMG’s global general counsel and executive VP of business & legal affairs.

I’m thrilled she has agreed to take on this new role and will join us in Santa Monica.”
Levy adds, “This is an incredibly dynamic time for the entire music industry, as our business rapidly adapts to the rising popularity of streaming and other forms of digital consumption.”
Levy has worked in UMG’s global digital business division for the past nine years, serving most recently as head of business affairs, digital, at Universal Music Group International and, prior to that, as VP of business affairs.
Earlier on, Levy served as VP of business affairs for Universal Music Mobile, based in Paris, and as director of business affairs in London working for UMGI and the Decca Music Group.
Prior to joining UMG in 2000, Levy worked at Clintons, the London-based law firm that specializes in sports, entertainment and media law. She holds a Masters Degree in Law and Philosophy from the University of Cambridge.
UMG’s digital team has undergone a transformation this year, precipitated by the departure in February of its longtime president of global digital business Rob Well. Executive vp David Ring followed four days later.
