Universal Music France has agreed to license its catalog for a wireless music subscription service run by mobile entertainment technology firm Musiwave.
The service allows users to select the songs to store and play on their mobile phones for a flat monthly fee, as opposed to paying per download. Universal Music is the only major label to license its content to the Musiwave service to date.
French wireless operator SFR is the first and only carrier to offer the service to subscribers. Only carriers that integrate the Musiwave technology can offer it to subscribers. Musiwave does not offer it directly to consumers.
