Universal Music U.K. has been named one of the top 10 companies to work for in Britain, according to a new poll on the country’s leading firms.
In the March 7 Sunday Times’ list of the 100 best U.K. companies to work for, Universal Music was ranked 8th. The firm was named “biggest riser,” recognizing its improvement on last year, when it made its first appearance in the rankings at No. 45, a breakthrough at that time for a record company.
According to a survey of employees, Universal Music scores an “outstanding” 67.3% to the question “this is my dream job,” to lead all companies in that category. The average score on that question was just 47.2%.
Elsewhere on the companies list, independent Chrysalis Group is at no. 46, while EMI Recorded Music is no. 73. Both are making their debuts on the annual list.
The Sunday Times list, which is backed by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), is derived largely from the views of employees, who account for 80% of the total. The balance comes from an assessment of benefits packages and employment policies, covering everything from equality between the sexes to holiday entitlements. This year the judges canvassed around 58,000 employees across 228 short-listed companies.
