We’ll refrain from any number of “not going anywhere” puns we could use to spotlight the fact that Traphik has taken the pole position on Billboard Uncharted for the fourth straight week. Thanks to more than a million YouTube views during the chart week on his wildly popular video channel, Southern California rapper continues to dominate the chart, which ranks emerging artists who have yet to appear on a major Billboard chart but are mapping new territory in online fan engagement.
Traphik also gained more than 1,100 new Twitter followers and 2,500 new Facebook fans, thanks to the steady stream of attention.
Moving up to the No. 2 spot this week are the Deadlies, a Los Angeles rock quartet who have hovered around the top 5 for four weeks. They take their highest position so far through broad internet promotion and steady MySpace Music plays, which topped 230,000 for the chart week.
At No. 7 is Laura Roppe, a consistent top-10 Uncharted artist whose sophomore album, “I’m Still Here,” was written while she was undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments for an aggressive form of breast cancer in 2009. The San Diego singer/songwriter was a runner-up in Kenny Chesney’s Next Big Star contest in 2008, and her video for the song “George Clooney,” posted last month, received more than 50,000 views during its first week.
Back on the Uncharted tally this week at No. 16 is Mindless Behavior, the quartet of 13-year old MCs who gained a surge in YouTube views, Facebook fans and Twitter followers thanks to a radio tour and new live video. Next month, they’ll open for Janet Jackson on a number of her U.S. tour dates.
Debuts this week include No. 41 The Whitest Boy Alive, an electronic group from Berlin that earned more than 35,000 plays on Last.fm during the chart week, and No. 49 Mac Miller, a rising rap star from Pittsburgh who’s earned love in the hip-hop press and recently released “Donald Trump,” the first single off his upcoming mixture “Best Day Ever”.
In graduate news, David Choi moved off Uncharted by scoring a place at No. 18 on the Comedy Digital Tracks chart with “I’m Hardcore,” a song with Ryan Higa and JR Aquino that spoofs what it means to be hardcore.
