This week’s ranking sees some interesting swings this week, as multiple debuts and re-entries shake things up. Here’s what’s going down on Uncharted:
Coming back on at No. 12 on Uncharted, guitar prodigy Sungha Jung earns this week’s highest re-entry. His impressive, finger-picked rendition of “This Love” by Maroon 5 – uploaded June 5 – has garnered 332,000 YouTube views. Early this year, Jung also released an album of original, instrumental compositions called “Perfect Blue.”
Mashup artist Girl Talk swings 23-18 with a gain of 3,000 Facebook fans and 15,000 Myspace plays, respectively. At present, he is on a US tour, engaging in the controlled mayhem, party-driven sets Girl Talk is known for. He claims a fairly high spot on the tally due to his constant touring.
Uncharted ranks artists – those who have not charted previously with Biellboard – using a formula blending weekly additions of friends / fans / followers across the world’s leading social networking sites (MySpace, Twitter, Facebook), as well as weekly artist page views and weekly song plays on influential music outlets (YouTube, Last.FM, SoundCloud).
Gaining one of the highest entries this week at No. 33, London-based, pioneer dubstep artist Skream–the moniker of Oliver Dene Jones–released a four-song EP on June 13, catalyzing a boost of 15,000 Facebook fans and 32,000 Last.fm plays.
Funk rockers Shaka Ponk also earned a noteworthy entry at No. 40. The group released their album “The Geeks and The Jerkin’ Socks” on June 6. The extremely catchy, upbeat single “Let’s Bang” – uploaded to YouTube on May 20 – has gained 5,500 plays. From now until November, Shaka Ponk is touring across various locations throughout France.
And finally, Rosetta, the Philadelphia-based post-metal band who landed at No. 40 this week, gained over 22,000 Wikipedia views this week. The group is currently touring throughout the world, in support of their 2010 album “A Determinism of Morality,” which was recently named a “Top 10 Hard Rock Album” by “Magnet” magazine.
