
Exciting things in Uncharted news this week: long-time Uncharted No.1 artist DJ BL3ND also re-entered Social 50 at No. 49, with a 10% gain in YouTube views. His latest mix “Swagga” has earned 1.7 million views since its May 16 debut.
Mash-up artist Gregg Gillis, a.k.a Girl Talk, took over MySpace June 16-18-in what the site called a “Hijack”-curating site content as he saw fit. This huge promotion gained him 183,152 friends, enough to catapult him-simultaneously-18-3 on Uncharted and re-enter Social 50 at No. 33.
London based singer and producer Jai Paul, now represented by XL Records, earns the highest Uncharted entry at No. 15. His song “BTSTU” went viral for a second time-first in 2010-gaining widespread blog coverage. Since debuting on SoundCloud on April 21, the haunting song has pulled in 112,600 plays-34,000 of which were added in the past week.
Uncharted ranks artists – those who have not charted previously with Billboard – using a formula blending weekly additions of friends / fans / followers across the world’s leading social networking sites (MySpace, Twitter, Facebook), as well as weekly artist page views and weekly song plays on influential music outlets (YouTube, Last.FM, SoundCloud).
Gaining the highest re-entry on Uncharted this week, electronic music group Metronomy emerge at No. 20. After uploading a video the song “The Bay” to YouTube on June 10, it quickly caught on, raking in 166,800 views. The seaside themed video pays tribute to the Will Smith video for “Miami.” In September, the act will begin touring though the UK.
New to the tally, Brazilian electronic group Felguk claims the No. 29 spot, thanks to their latest song “Blow Out” bringing in 15,000 SoundCloud plays and becoming a top track on the download site Beatport. and. The group also celebrated another milestone as it crossed the 50,000 Facebook fan mark. In June, the group has been touring in the US; their last stop is in Las Vegas on the 26.
Lastly, another Brazilian act–this time, a pop rock group called Jota Quest–jumps in at No. 31; their video for the song “É Preciso” gained 141,900 YouTube views since debuting on June 13. Keep your eyes on Brazil, everyone: its music scene is getting hotter by the day!
