Universal Music International has struck a pan-European licensing deal with Cirque du Soleil Musique, the label from the renowned Montreal-based performance group.
UMI on April 11 will issue four albums of music associated with the organization’s performances. They include the compilation “Le Best Of,” remix album “Tapis Rouge — Solarium” and selections from the “Dralion” and “Saltimbanco” productions. An album of music from the “Zumanity” show will be issued at a later date.
“Music is an essential part of [Cirque du Soleil’s] exciting and hugely popular productions, and we expect this to translate into a successful series of album releases,” says Wulf Muller, UMI VP of international marketing for classics and jazz.
Since its inception 20 years ago, Cirque du Soleil has drawn more than 50 million people, according to UMI. It currently stages 10 shows, six of which are touring.
