Following 200,000 general public votes, according to organizers, the fifth annual U.K. Festival Awards has announced the 2008 nominations shortlist — and it’s a good result for boutique festivals.
Heading the list with three nominations is North Dorset’s End Of The Road festival, followed by Huntingdon’s Secret Garden Party and Bestival spin-off Camp Bestival in Dorset with two apiece.
On the artist front, Jay-Z misses out in the festival headline act category in favor of Kings of Leon, Metallica, Muse, Rage Against The Machine and The Verve. He did, however, pick up a nomination for ‘most memorable moment’ in recognition of his cover of Oasis’ “Wonderwall” during this year’s headlining Glastonbury festival performance.
Newcomers Duffy, MGMT and the Ting Tings have all earned two nominations. Voting closes Oct. 20.
The U.K. Festival Awards will be held at London’s Indigo venue on Oct. 30. For the first time, the awards will partner with Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy.
