Meet Minke. The fast rising UK alt-R&B newcomer is the latest signee to This Fiction management (X Ambassadors, Great Good Fine OK), who first touched down earlier this year with her debut single “Gold Angel.” The track quickly earned the hype of Zane Lowe & Beats 1, featured on New Music Friday, Pop Rising, and more, and hit No.1 on Hype Machine twice within the space of two weeks.
The tune, which has amassed over 3 million streams on Spotify, even caught the ear of one Lindsay Lohan, who used it to soundtrack a fireside meditation on Instagram, captioned “#peace #lohan18 #hypnotic.”
Today, Minke returns with her second single “Armour,” premiering exclusively via Billboard.
The track is a female empowerment anthem about letting go of your defenses and learning how to be vulnerable, especially with those closest to you. “When you’re feeling really down and you’re putting on a solid front to the world, but then your closest calls you and asks if you’re ok and you totally break down [but then] start to feel better,” Minke tells Billboard of the song’s origins. “I wanted to celebrate being vulnerable, celebrate the people around us who pick us up, that it’s fine not feeling fine – you’re not alone, everyone goes through shit and the best thing we can do is to be ourselves, truly, always… even when sometimes its not that pretty.”
Minke will make her festival debut this weekend at UK’s Bushstock Festival and will also appear at Latitude Festival this July. Give “Gold Angel” a spin below and keep an eye out for her forthcoming debut EP later this year.
