The fall North American leg of U2’s Vertigo tour will begin Sept. 12 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto and wrap Dec. 19 at the Rose Garden Arena in Portland, Ore. Tickets go on sale this weekend, and a U2.com pre-sale will again be offered to fan club members.
Arthur Fogel, president of TNA International, worldwide producer of the U2 tour, tells Billboard.com, “hopefully all the [pre-sale] issues will have been worked out. It helps to have more than one show in New York.”
Indeed, U2 will go up with three New York shows on the new leg, and route “padding” there and in several other markets will allow for more shows to be added as dates sell out.
Among the markets the band will be revisiting are Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia and Los Angeles. Vertigo will also play Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Montreal and dates in Florida and Texas.
The first portion of tour begins March 28 in San Diego and wraps May 28 in Boston. European dates follow from June 10 until Aug. 11. Before playing a note, U2 has already sold 2.2 million tickets and grossed about $185 million. By the time Vertigo concludes it will be one of the top grossing treks of all time, with a total nearing $300 million.
