Tyler, The Creator plays a lovesick teenager in a creepy green mask in the unhinged visual for “She,” which premiered on Odd Future‘s website on Friday (June 3).
The video for the second “Goblin” single opens with Odd Future’s R&B crooner Frank Ocean in bed with the unnamed “she” of the video, and the singer stops when he sees a masked Tyler staring outside of her bedroom window. The rapper eventually enters the room as the girl falls asleep, caressing her and writing a note on her mirror while spitting the song’s first verse. “I finally got the courage to ask you on a date, so just say yes and let the future fall into place,” a twitchy Tyler asks the girl — before the cops show up and arrest him.
Tyler, the Creator earned a boatload of hype for his “Yonkers” video — Kanye West called it “the video of 2011” on Twitter — before releasing sophomore album “Goblin” on XL last month. The full-length has since sold 65,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Tyler’s fellow Odd Future rappers Hodgy Beats and Left Brain will release “Blackenedwhite,” their first album as the duo MellowHype, on July 12 through Fat Possum. Meanwhile, Ocean’s solo single, “Novacane,” climbs to No. 49 on this week’s R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
