Twin XL‘s first Billboard-charting single “Good” recently concluded its run on the Alternative Songs airplay chart, which means it’s time for the next taste of material from the alt-pop trio from Los Angeles.
“Messy,” Twin XL’s latest single, was initially debuted Nov. 1, and Billboard is exclusively premiering its vibrant music video today (Nov. 11).
The video finds frontman Cameron Walker-Wright in a variety of scenes that include holding a precariously aflame newspaper and apathetically avoiding a meal at the dinner table, with bandmates Stephen and John Gomez often flanking him, all while rarely losing direct eye contact with the camera.
“In making the video for ‘Messy,’ we wanted to play with the idea of trying to escape your problems through change of scenery, change of clothes, or change of social environment — only to realize that you can’t escape yourself,” Walker-Wright tells Billboard. “The only way to fix your problems is to face them.”
“Messy” is the newest radio single for the band, following the success of “Good,” which peaked at No. 24 on Billboard‘s Alternative Songs chart dated Sept. 14 and also reached No. 43 on the all-rock-format Rock Airplay list (Sept. 7).
Twin XL is currently supporting The Maine on a North American tour that concludes Nov. 30 in Phoenix; afterward, the trio will embark on a tour this winter supporting Fitz & the Tantrums starting Feb. 7 in Newkirk, Okla.
