Even when you’re one of the most popular girl groups in the world, it’s important to take a moment and look back on and appreciate what you’ve done over the past year. And that’s exactly what TWICE did in the music video for their brand new song “The Best Thing I Ever Did.”
Released today (Dec. 12), “The Best Thing I Ever Did” is a sweet, wintery pop tune full of twinkling bells and a lilting piano melody. Lyrically, it’s a love song, but the accompanying music video features the women looking back on their time together, and shows them sitting in a theater watching videos of themselves during the past year. It ends with them playing in the snow with reindeer, singing the hopeful verse: “Just like this, like this, like this/ Let us never change.”
According to a statement from TWICE’s label JYP Entertainment, the song is about “taking a moment to review the year in December, the most precious memory is meeting people who we love” and is about TWICE’s bond with their fans, known as ONCE.
A holiday season-inspired song, “The Best Thing I Ever Did” was written by J.Y. Park, the founder of TWICE’s label JYP Entertainment; he worked with several other songwriters, including TWICE’s labelmate Jimin Park, on filling in the verses alongside the chorus portions.
“The Best Thing I Ever Did” is the lead single on TWICE’s The Year of “Yes” album, an extended re-release of November’s Yes or Yes. Aside from the single, it also features an Korean version of “Be as One,” a song originally released earlier this year by the group in Japanese. The album features a total of nine tracks between those originally released on Yes or Yes and the new songs.
