South Korean pop star Max Changmin (Shim Chang-min) of TVXQ, has donated about $60,000 to help sustain the Amazon rainforest, which is currently facing devastating forest fires, and donated another sum of the same size to a South Korean environmental charity.
On Monday, it was revealed that Changmin donated 70 million KRW, or around $58,700 USD, to help fight against the wildfires raging in the Amazon through Greenpeace. He also donated another 70 million KRW to Tree Planet, a local charity that is replanting the mountains of Gangwon Province in South Korea after forest fires decimated parts of the region in April.

The donations came out of the proceeds of Changmin’s collaboration earlier this year with clothing brand Represent. Known as RE:MAX, the line was partly a fund-raising initiative based around environmental protection. “Let’s make our world a better and cleaner place with RE:MAX,” the singer wrote on Instagram upon the limited-edition clothing line’s launch in May. The 31-year-old K-pop star has regularly donated to charities over the years.
