TVT Records plans to begin selling downloads, ringtones and mobile wallpaper directly to consumers through its Web site, Billboard.biz has learned. An announcement is expected today (Nov. 16).
The new TVT store, launching at tvtrecords.navio.com, is being powered by Navio Systems Inc., a Cupertino, Calif.-based provider of rights-based commerce solutions. Individual song downloads and digital albums will be sold in the MP3 format.
TVT says it plans to use the direct-to-consumer business to offer special bundled packages of digital content and physical merchandise. This will supplement the digital business the indie label already does through existing download retailers and mobile services.
TVT is also hoping to use the store to drive grass-roots album promotion. “The site is built to reward consumers who virally promote our artists and content,” TVT president and founder Steve Gottlieb says.
Navio technology enables TVT to distribute multiple digital product formats — including mobile content and digital downloads — to consumers in a single transaction.
