(The Hollywood Reporter) — Television New Zealand hopes to appoint a new chief executive from within its own ranks before the end of March, the public broadcaster’s deputy chair, Rob Fenwick, said.
“We’re hopeful it will be an internal appointment but naturally we will be casting a wide net,” he told independent producers who fear a political and public backlash against TVNZ will lead to commissioning cutbacks.
Recently the state-owned broadcaster has been hammered in the press and political circles for the quality of its governance and management, but Fenwick insisted TVNZ is not in crisis.
“TVNZ is in good shape. We’ve had a record year. The TVNZ board has absolute confidence in the management team,” Fenwick said. “Having said that, the noise that prevails around the company at the moment is not helpful to us or to you … at the end of the day, without a strong public service broadcaster, we’re all in a negative position. Our future is your future.”
