Following its July 3 overseas release via 4AD and a much-hyped leaked version which circled the Internet this spring, TV On The Radio’s second full-length, “Return to Cookie Mountain,” will finally arrive in North America Sept. 12 via Interscope. It’s the band’s first album for the major label after leaving Chicago indie Touch & Go.
“I guess we’d exhausted quite a few options and had been looking around for a while,” bassist Gerard Smith tells Billboard.com of the label switch. “We wanted to work with some different possibilities, things like videos and distribution. We look at Interscope as a different platform.”
The band has been offering a glimpse inside the new album via a series of self-made promotional short films on its Web site, one featuring actor and comedian David Cross. A clip for the song “Wolf Like Me” will be shot tonight (July 14) in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
TV On The Radio is fresh off the road opening a series of dates for Bahaus and Nine Inch Nails, an experience Smith admits was “surreal. We really only got the hardcore kids that were way up front and had been waiting in line all day. But it was nice to have a new and different audience to try and convert. And it was crazy playing with Bauhaus. Like, ‘Wow, Bauhaus’.”
After a series of European festivals and dates in Japan and Australia, TV On The Radio expects to kick off a North American tour around the release date of the new album.
