India, the tropical artist who has been charming audiences since the ’80s as “the princess of salsa,” has joined the label Top Stop Music, which was founded by veteran producer Sergio George.
Born in Puerto Rico as Linda Viera Caballero, the veteran singer known by many of her fans as La India, has spent a career entertaining audiences with her brand of salsa music in addition to conquering other genres including Latin pop.
The Grammy-nominated recording artist began making music in her teens when she lived in New York and eventually caught the attention of music veterans who helped her become established. Salsa icon Eddie Palmieri produced one of her early in her career.
Top Stop Music Inks Distribution Deal With Atlantic Records
India is no stranger to Top Stop Music. The label released her last album, “Única,” in 2010. The album debuted at No. 1 on Tropical albums, and peaked at No. 4 on Top Latin Albums.
Other best-selling albums on the Billboard charts include “Dicen Que Soy” (1994), which peaked at No. 1 (for two weeks) on the Tropical Albums chart, and No. 4 on Top Latin Albums; “Sola” (1999), which peaked at No. 4 on Tropical Albums and No. 7 on Top Latin Albums; and “Soy Diferente” (2006), which peaked at No. 1 (for three weeks) on Tropical Albums and No. 11 on Top Latin Albums.

India is also tied with Gloria Estefan for the female with the most No. 1s on Tropical Airplay, for a total of 7. Those singles are “Nunca Voy a Olvidarte” (1994), “Ese Hombre” (1994), “Mi Mayor Venganza” (1998), “Seduceme” (2003), “Traicion” (2003), “Ya No Queda Nada” (2005) and “Estupida” (2010). “Seduceme” spent three weeks at No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs.
In her career India has had several label homes including Sony Music. Others part of the Top Stop Music catalog include Tito Nieves, Leslie Grace and the Salsa Giants, which features Grammy-winning producer George as an artist.
Label Vet George Zamora Joins Latin Indie Top Stop Music
According to a Top Stop Music statement, India is scheduled to return to the studio to once again work with George, a longtime collaborator.
