The prosecutor at a tribunal in Vilnius, Lithuania, has called for a nine-year jail sentence against Bertrand Cantat. The French singer faces charges of homicide after his companion, the actress Marie Trintignant, died last summer, aged 41. Trintignant was found unconscious in their hotel room in Vilnius and later died of wounds to the head.
Cantat is the lead singer of French rock band Noir Desir, which is signed to Universal Music label Barclay. During the trial, he admitted he had hit Trintignant several times during a dispute.
The prosecutor, Vladimiras Sergejevas, says Cantat was conscious of his acts.
Cantat’s lawyers intend to plead that it was a crime of passion. A verdict could be reached today (March 18).
