Collaborators Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have teamed up with Scottish post-rock band Mogwai and Argentine film composer Gustavo Santaolalla to score Leonardo DiCaprio’s new documentary Before the Flood.
The Fisher Stevens-directed film, which premieres at Toronto International Film Festival, chronicles DiCaprio’s campaign to raise global awareness about the dangers of climate change in his role as a UN Ambassador of Peace.
Reznor and Ross — who previously scored David Fincher’s The Social Network, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and Gone Girl — served as the new film’s music supervisors.
“The incredible music composed for Before the Flood was one of the most unique collaborations I can think of in scoring a film,” Stevens said in a statement. “Reznor, Ross, Santaolalla and Mogwai become one voice in capturing the emotion and feeling of Leonardo DiCaprio’s journey to understanding where we stand in terms of climate change, how far gone we are, what can we do about solving this issue and why people are still resistant to understanding how important it is.”
The album version to the score of Before the Flood will be available sometime in October, according to Rolling Stone. The doc will hit theaters in New York and Los Angeles on Oct. 21 and premiere on National Geographic in more than 100 countries on Oct. 30.
