Three acts who won nominations for the 2002 Brit Awards, announced last night (Jan. 14) in London, will take part in a unique charity gig Feb. 4 at the city’s Astoria club. The show, part of music weekly NME’s 50th anniversary celebration, will feature Travis, Starsailor, and Ryan Adams, with proceeds benefiting Warchild, a network of independent organizations dedicated to assisting victims of war.
The event will also serve as a precursor to the NME Carling Shows at the Astoria from Feb. 6-21, with headline appearances by Aphex Twin, … And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, Starsailor, Andrew WK, Nickelback, Doves, and the Pet Shop Boys.
Travis received three Brit nominations last night, for best British group, album (“The Invisible Band”) and video (“Sing”). Starsailor was nominated in the best British newcomer field, while Adams won a nod for best international newcomer.
