Texas-bred rapper Travis Scott is having the best year ever. He became a dad when Vogue-cover nabbin’ Kylie Jenner had his baby, the young Stormi Webster, and his album ASTROWORLD went to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Its single “SICKO MODE” is his biggest hit to date, peaking at No. 4 on the Hot 100. It’s a wild ride of hopping samples and changing sonic landscapes. It also features some heavy Drake verses and even a quick drop from Swae Lee. Basically, it’s got everything one might want in an experimental hip-hop song more than five minutes long.
A hit this hard with this much trap in it is sure to get the electronic dance world jumpin’. It’s already been seen that Skrillex has a remix forthcoming, but he’s not the first one to get the idea. Below, we list our five favorite remixes of “SICKO MODE” to date.
“SICKO MODE” (B3YOND Remix)
This remix takes on the middle part of the familiar tune, cutting in as if nothing has been remixed at all, which means you can mix into this and completely freak everyone out when the rinse comes through with bass drops that stomp harder than a stack of cash on a stripper’s behind.
“SICKO MODE” (Luca Lush Remix)
If you’re looking for someone to work out that old-school organ wail from the first part of “SICKO MODE,” Luca Lush has the monster future trap you desire. This is a real screecher with energy levels high enough to set off the fire alarms. In Scott’s own words, “it’s lit.”
“SICKO MODE” (Crankdat Re-Crank)
Crankdat’s “re-crank” takes a whole new approach to the familiar hit. Instead of cherry picking one beat or another, he taps into the original’s overall tone of booming darkness and builds his own chaotic melodies around it. It’s still quite monstrous with heavy roots dug into the world of dubstep. Give it a spin.
“SICKO MODE” (Saint Punk Remix)
Saint Punk slows the tempo and gives the main mid section a serious close-up. Shout out Scott’s hometown of Houston with the screwed vibes, but about halfway through, Saint Punk throws some bounce on it. Next thing you know, you’re getting housed, but watch out. The house is a trap.
“SICKO MODE” (Gibson Parker Remix)
We finish our list with a remix from Gibson Parker. Once again, he plays with the main beat in the middle. It’s rather close to the original, but everything hits a bit punchier over amped-up future bass beats. There’s a real bright bounce as the hook approaches, and when things hit their peak, it’s real pretty.
